Thanksgiving Is Also a Time To Give Back

Thanksgiving is the time of year when we pause to reflect upon things for which we are grateful.  During a tough global economy when so many are struggling to find employment or even a place to live, I am reminded of how fortunate I really am.  I am also reminded of the things – be they little or big – that have had a dramatic impact on my life this past year.

One of the many things for which I am grateful is opportunity:  the opportunity to do what I love and to give back by helping others.  Recently I started doing some work for a nonprofit organization named Fairy DogParents.  This Massachusetts-based organization, run by a lean and dedicated board of directors, has helped 400+ dogs stay out of shelters and with their loving owners.  Many dogs are surrendered to shelters and face euthanasia because their owners don’t have the financial means to provide the medical care their animals require.  In light of the current recession, many shelters are now sadly overflowing with dogs whose owners love them – but are unable to continue caring for them.

The work I have been doing with FDP has been some of the most interesting, inspiring and rewarding work that I have done in recent years.  I’m not looking for congratulations – but I am looking to inspire you to help others who need your talent and skills, whatever they may be.  FDP is doing great things for dogs that would otherwise face an uncertain future.  If I can contribute in some small way to keeping a dog out of a shelter and at home with its loving owner, then I am grateful.  Grateful for the opportunity to help make that so-

Above all things, I am grateful for the love and support of family and friends.  You continue to inspire me and to enrich my life each day.
